Wet and Miserable Run

For some reason I was not feeling the running love today. Not sure if it was the weather or what. Normally rain doesn’t bother me much, but today I was just kind of blah. My legs felt heavy, I couldn’t get my stride to feel right, and my speeds were low. Only one sub-ten min mile in the lot! I did do some uphill running, but that doesn’t explain why I wasn’t able to pick up the pace down the hills.

I ran out along Sunnyside. Planned about 5 miles out to meet Roy at Sbux, and then have breakfast and run 5 miles back or so, for 8-10 miles. Ended up losing track of mileage because it is really beautiful overlooking the valley that I went 2 miles out. Tried to do the math in my head (math is hard, also spracht Barbie) and figured I’d do 5-6 max. Yeah, so it was 8.5 so Barbie was right.

Wiley was very good. He was a real trooper, but I think 8 was pushing it. It’s the longest he’s run without stopping. No run/walk today although with my pace, maybe I should have.

Hit the Bux and enjoyed an orange scone I picked up at Panera yesterday and a cup of Thanksgiving Blend coffee and the company of my husband. Poor guy was pretty worried as I’d said I’d be there at about 10:15 figuring about 5-6 miles, my good pace lately…so he was just about to go looking for me as it was almost 11. He left his cell at home so didn’t get my messages.

Decided not to run home as it was raining again and I was pretty chilled. Figured my body feeling so tired was an indication that I was, once again, misunderstanding the word “Taper”.

My jacket I got at Brooks yesterday is nicely water resistant, though. I was hardly wet underneath, despite almost 90 min of rain. My vest, not so much water resistant as a big sponge. I’ll keep that for cold dry runs.

Now I’m being a domestic goddess. Roy has gone to see a play his former students are in, and I’m baking cookies for the Turkey Trot and just made a HUGE pear crisp for us to enjoy. Also making yogurt, and may make some homemade tortillas later, or the chicken tortilla casserole recipe I found…or maybe both. The tortillas would make a nice side to the casserole.
