Supporting on the Seattle Marathon Route

What a GREAT day! Started with volunteering at mile 2 to cheer on the runners and make sure that no one got lost entering the express lanes. We walked there from the hotel (mileage doesn’t include that) and set up then cheered until I was hoarse!!! Everyone looked so strong! Saw a guy on crutches…I hope he crossed. Just so many motivating people.
I then headed down to the finish line. Took the monorail for part of it because I ran a marathon yesterday. Started walking towards my group cheering on people as they came in the last 5 miles. Saw a few people I knew and did a bit of running/walking with them. I was running off and on cheering myself hoarse again.
Saw all my half marathoners, except Erin for some reason. Nicole gave me a HUGE hug and looked fantastic. Sarah was in pain but still looked strong. A few miles later I saw Jacquie and Bruce and they looked great. Walked with them for a few minutes. Really felt good to see everyone looking so strong.
Got a call from L who was in a lot of pain, so coordinated getting Roy over there to pick her up. What a challenge that was, just because no one wanted to let us through. I totally understand that, and we were very fortunate that a course guy let us through when we told him we were picking up an injured runner. I rode with Roy to find her then part of the way back with her, keeping track of where my marathoners were so I could catch up with them.
Started back on the route again, more cheering and running. Finally intersected with Dana and Krista and spent some time with them, but asked if they minded if I went back to find Cathy who was really struggling. Megan came right up and so I knew those three had support, but I still felt bad leaving them. Cathy was only about half a mile behind. She was feeling nauseous and had bad IT pain in her knee and yet she finished in less than 5:10! Seriously, that just ROCKS!!!
I hope she didn’t mind that I yammered off and on (mostly on) the entire time. I just wanted to distract her so I just kept on talking!! She really is strong to finish looking so good!
In fact, they all looked strong at the end! I wish somehow I could have seen everyone finish, but even though I couldn’t I was there in spirit!! What a motivating, fun, inspiring day! I can hardly wait until Rock and Roll training starts!
