Intermediate Strength Training with Circuit

Took Roy through this training today. We skipped lower body because he has a gimpy knee and frankly, I get enough with my running. Felt good. You know the best part? When in the middle of the training I got a phone call telling me school was delayed two hours!

Jillian Michaels Shred

I headed back to the Shred today. I’m still on level 1 because I was going into a marathon and didn’t want to hurt or pull anything. The week before the marathon I stopped doing it, so my quads would be fresh, and my quads hurt the week after. So it’s been two weeks. DAMN! It was hard this morning. I do still have one sore spot on the front right quad that made it a challenge, but I just modified and carried on!

Kick ass cardio strength circuit

I’m working on developing strength cardio circuits so I’m watching as many DVDs as I can to get some ideas. Well not WATCHING, I’m DOING them. Today was a Jillian Michaels one and a Crunch Boot Camp. I need hard core so that I feel like I’m getting a workout. I can scale it back. I also need safe. A few routines I’d NEVER have a client do because I like my clients appendages to NOT detach.

Cardio/Strength Routine

It was a frustrating start, but I liked it. I like to try new workouts using Netflix on demand once a week or so for ideas for my own clients. Since a few had complained that they were having a hard time being motivated to strength train, I chose one that was a combination strength/cardio workout. Really it was using upper and lower at the same time with weights so you’re moving your large muscles and raising your heart rate, which is better than jumping around with weights.

Unfortunately it wouldn’t start. I couldn’t get the DRM management software to update. Had to call tech support, but quick as a wink we got it going. (Why they don’t just put it on their website that the reinstaller for the DRM manager is in the folder in program files is beyond me…)

Good workout and gave me some good ideas for showing a client I meet with on Monday.

Early morning strength training

Got up this morning and did my first pre-work strength routine in the fitness studio. It went well. I chose a combination advanced workout that included a lot of combined upper and lower body. I love that kind of thing…it’s like multitasking. You get more bang for your buck!

Roy joined me so I did some crunches while he caught up. I was kind of concerned that I wouldn’t get as good a workout at that time of the morning without the Y, but it went well. I think I’ll lay everything out the night before, though.

Home Gym

aka…Home Jim. This is what I call my new room. Well…the room itself is not new, it just has a new purpose and a new name!

We sold the futon that was our guest bed (mostly occupied by our collie who died about a month ago…sniff), and decided to turn it into a home gym. We cleared out everything, brought in our various and sundry workout gear, bought a flatscreen TV and set that up to work with the computer. Roy drilled through the wall and we ran cables from the computer to the television. I had to add a bit more RAM (it needed it anyhow), a new video card so I could send the picture to the TV and still use the computer, and a few cables, but it works great.

I also discovered that on Netflix you can watch dozens of workout videos on demand! Very cool! So I start it on the computer, go in and hang out with Home Jim and he puts me through my paces! So today I did two cardio/strength training workouts, and 45 minutes of yoga. It’s awesome!
