Run - 0 hours - 12/27/2008
Thank heavens we’re getting some melting! Still challenging to run in, but there’s more road to be in so not as dangerous. Yesterday on my run a teenager thought it would be funny to aim at me with her car. She nearly lost control and I was so scared I almost cried. Unfortunately the little wench hadn’t cleared the snow from her license plate or I’d have called 911.

Nordic Track and Little Miss Sunshine
Monday’s shred workout left my legs SO tired (it’s the lunges and squats). Since I have an ultra coming up, I decided it wasn’t a good idea to do that until after. So I pulled out the Nordic Trak and had a nice 40 minute workout while watching the movie “Little Miss Sunshine.” I forgot how much I just LOVED this movie.
Finished up with 700 crunches. Good workout!

Christmas Run
So I was in a grey mood after work today. I didn’t feel like running. I was resentful that I had to go to the chiropractor. It was cold and drizzly and grey out. I’m already tired of Winter and it hasn’t even started yet. I have something going on every day this week up until Monday…growl.
So I decided to go home. Went by way of chiro and thought “Oh don’t be a baby, stop in. Your back hurts.” So I did and it feels much better. Swimming just KILLS it, I swear!
I had my running gear on, but was going to go home. I am so paranoid about parking and running as much as I used to after two smash and grabs. I drove down Colby and noticed that they had 60 minute parking. Well that’s perfect! I figured what I really needed was some Christmas spirit.
So I parked and ran along the cute shops, then down around the cute homes and watched the lights come on. It was beautiful and the stiffness in my legs left pretty quickly. That made me happy. Ran four miles, finishing up at Starbucks. Treated myself to an Americano with sf vanilla and a caramel macchiato biscotti, and headed for home. I got into the van and noticed that right in front of me was the cutest little tea and candy shop inviting me in. So I went in and picked up a hand made candy cane for Roy and a hand made caramel, and put those in his stocking. I love little shops like that and feel I should frequent them more.
Drove home watching “Pushing Daisies” (well listening to) on my iPod, feeling much happier.
Got our ticket for the dog incident…$71 for Wiley being off leash, $71 for barking. We’re going to request a court date since the reason we got the barking one was that the neighbor (Paula the witch) said…well last time I checked “The neighbor said” wasn’t really proof of anything. Oh, I’m sure the dogs were barking when the police officer walked into our backyard, but that’s what they’re supposed to do.
Roy was standing at the sink washing his hands and he looked up to see Paula peering at him through her window. She huffily put the blinds down (as if “How DARE you look at me watching you.” What is the matter with that woman? Outside of opening the window last week and loudly proclaiming what a bitch she was for calling the police instead of us, we have NEVER been anything but nice and polite to her. She’s a nutcase.

Jillian Michaels Shred
I headed back to the Shred today. I’m still on level 1 because I was going into a marathon and didn’t want to hurt or pull anything. The week before the marathon I stopped doing it, so my quads would be fresh, and my quads hurt the week after. So it’s been two weeks. DAMN! It was hard this morning. I do still have one sore spot on the front right quad that made it a challenge, but I just modified and carried on!

Sunday Morning LSD
Did .9 mile run .10 mile walk interval until last three miles, then just ran them all in. Roy rode his bike with me and we talked a lot, then towards the end I entertained him by singing off key.
Two weeks until my ultra.

Boy did I need this run!
Running=stress relief…thank GOD!
Roy and I were talking on the phone as I drove and he walked home. He got home a few minutes before I did and informed me there was a note on the door from a police officer. In a panic I rushed home because it was about our dogs being out. Thank the LORD Wiley was out, but had stayed close, and Dash and Murphy were still in the kennel.
So the upshot was Wiley and Murphy (although he was IN when we got home) apparently got out and were harassing the back neighbors’ dog. We keep them in a kennel with a six foot tall fence that encloses our basement stairs so they are not loose in our backyard, as one side of our fenceline is this ridiculously short 3.5 foot tall fence (neighbors built it). The rest is a six foot tall fence, and the other part is going this summer. When the officer showed up in our backyard to find out what was going on, the dogs barked at him. Our neighbor, and I use that term loosely as in “the (&@*( who lives next to us” not as in someone who behaves in a neighborly fashion, informs him that they bark “all day every day.”
So now we’re getting a ticket.
Now don’t get me wrong. I agree to pay the ticket for the dog being out. We’re not sure HOW he got out, but he did and that poses a threat to him so we do NOT want that happening. Very not cool. I also would not blame another person for calling 911…they would not know he is a friendly dog.
It’s the barking thing. They DO NOT BARK ALL DAY EVERY DAY! This woman will hear them bark in the summer (we may be out playing in the yard), open her window and scream “SHUT UP!!!” after 30 seconds. To her, dog barking is a bane on society. Never mind that we lived here first, we keep our dogs safely INDOORS with outdoor access all day every day, and often indoors completely. They are NEVER kenneled when we are home unless I have a client or a guest who does not like dogs. She once complained she heard them barking ALL NIGHT. Funny that I didn’t hear it SINCE THEY SLEEP IN THE SAME ROOM I DO, OFTEN ON THE BED!!!
It’s the lying that pisses me off. Do they bark? Sure they do! They are dogs. That is how a dog communicates. Do they bark “all day every day”? HARDLY! In fact what you’ll hear is the occasional “you have my bone and now I will eat your face” scrabble that lasts SECONDS, or if another dog comes into the backyard, the meter reader shows up, or kids cut through our yard…those are all VERY rare situations that have caused barking. If our ticket includes a barking fine, we’re going to fight it because I could “say” that she runs a crack house. Doesn’t make it true, but I could say that, so if they base a ticket on what she said, I’ll be pissed. Did they bark at the strange man in dark clothing entering their yard? Sure! That’s what we want them to do. It keeps HER safe too!
Why would someone move into a neighborhood and expect absolute silence? We do not blast our music, we don’t park junkers on the lawn, we mow our grass, we mind our business, and we are very NICE people. But she is this older dried up old hag who is like Alice Kravitz reincarnated. She looks over her fence at us while we’re eating lunch in the summer time. She screeches out the window at the playing dogs. She complains when we have the RARE fire in our fire pit (one time I came out to find her spraying her hose over our fence because it was “burning out of control”. Um, that was STEAM raising up from the pit because it happened to have a hose on it because I’d just put it out then stepped into the house to answer a timer that was going off.
I wonder if I shouldn’t start blaring my music from BUBBA as I leave at 4 a.m. every day? Naw…
Anyhow, thank HEAVENS for running! It was great to just get my frustrations out. Not to mention it was “thank you Jesus” gorgeous outside today. I mean cold, clear, mountains, the sunset was every color of the rainbow and seemed to last forever. It was so beautiful, in fact, that I extended my run .7 miles so I could keep drinking it in. Just beautiful!
I am now feeling MUCH better! The boys will all be in the house from now on, but maybe I’ll get that dogs barking Jingle Bells song and put it on a loop tomorrow…

Masters Class WOO HOO
Honestly, this is the FASTEST I’ve swam! I was watching others and noticing that for every one kick I do, they do two so I upped my kickage and it translated into feeling more balanced and streamlined in the water. I didn’t start doing it until about halfway into the workout, but it sure made a difference. I was a little frustrated because I was on for a PB in distance because of my pacing and then we had to stop for TEN MINUTES of announcements. Um, I pay to work out and be instructed. Email me, hand me a little half sheet on the way out, post it on the bulletin board, or write it on the white board…but don’t take ten of the last 15 minutes of my workout.
Oh well. I still do love the class. It was also nice because I was in a lane with two men who were nicely matched to my pace, for the most part.
